Documented group of Soviet orders and medals

To Guards Major Vasily Polikarpovich Litvinenko (Василий Поликарпович Литвиненко)

Amazing group of awards with many personal items and document with interested research

The group consists of the following items:

Order of the Red Banner #92330

Made of silver and enamels. Measures 45.56 mm in height and 37.44 mm in width. It weighs 23.8 gram without its suspension. The mint mark Monetni Dvor and the serial number are located at the bottom of its reverse.

This original order is in excellent, far above average condition with problem free enamels. The higher laying parts show little wear and most gold plating is still present. On the reverse there are traces of solder visible. This was probably applied for attaching a pin for more comfortable wear. This can easily be chemically removed on request but we prefer our items to be in the state the awardees wore them. The order comes with its original double layer steel suspension.

Order of the Patriotic War 2nd class #66848

Made of solid gold, silver and enamels. Measures 47.28 mm in height and 45.02 mm in width at its widest point. It weighs 25.9 gram. Both the mint mark Monetni Dvor in two lines and the serial number are located at the bottom of its reverse.

This Order of the Patriotic War is in nice condition but shows some enamel loss on the 7 o’clock ray of the red star and a superficial chip on the 9 o’clock ray. However, all details are crisp and the edges are razor sharp. Both sides have a beautiful dark patina. There have been no repairs and the screw has not been shortened. Its silver screwplate is time period to the order.

Order of the Patriotic War 1st class #951224

Made of gold plated silver and enamels. Measures 46.06 mm in height and 44.61 mm in width at its widest point. It weighs 27.1 gram. The mint mark Monetni Dvor in two lines is located at the top of its reverse and the serial number at the bottom.

This Order of the Patriotic War is in pristine condition with perfect enamels and full gold plating. Impossible to upgrade.

The order comes with its matching award book and numbered award box.

Medal for Combat Merit #2354753

Made of silver and enamels. Measures 32.29 in diameter and weighs 19.1 gram.

The medal is in great condition with all details visible and problem free red lacquer. Its connection ring has not been cut and the double layer brass is time period to the medal.

Interestingly enough this medal is not mentioned in the award booklet nor on his record card. However, since this set comes directly from the family I presume it belonged to Major Litvinenko so we included it in the lot. It was probably awarded for 10 year service in the Red Army.

Medal for Labor Valor

Medal for Distinguished Labor

Medal for Victory over Germany

Communist Party Badge for 50 year membership with its award document

Guard Badge

Many award and ID documents

Translation of the research:

Order of the Red Banner #92330

Brief, concrete description of his feat of arms or achievements:

The deputy commander of the 324th Guards Antitank Artillery Regiment, Guards Major Vasily Polikarpovich Litvinenko, skillfully organized the regiment’s Party and political activities. He properly directed the entire Party organization to accomplish their principal assignment: crossing to the right bank of the Dnieper River and helping the infantry units consolidate their positions there. As a result, the regiment crossed to the right bank of the Dnieper on the night of September 29 to 30 of this year under heavy enemy artillery and mortar fire without any losses and took up position on the western outskirts of the village of Traktomirovka.

Stationed directly at the batteries’ firing positions, comrade Litvinenko supervised the gun crews, fighting off numerous enemy tank attacks. In doing so he helped secure and expand our troops’ bridgehead on the right bank of the Dnieper River.

For skillfully organizing the crossing to the right bank and for repelling enemy counterattacks, comrade Litvinenko deserves the Order of the Red Banner.

Order of the Patriotic War 2nd Class #66848

Brief, concrete description of his feat of arms or achievements:

During the offensive operations Guards Major V.P. Litvinenko showed himself a brave officer who is capable of taking initiative. On January 17, 1944 a superior enemy force encircled the 324th Guards Antitank Artillery Regiment near Ostrozhany in Vinnitsa Province. Stationed among the ranks of the regiment he skillfully saw to it that one battery fought its way out. In doing so the battery knocked out 3 tanks and 5 armored personnel carriers, suffering only insignificant losses itself.

While stationed with the battery during the fighting at the village of Balabanovka, comrade Litvinenko skillfully repelled an enemy counterattack, knocking out 2 tanks and killing as many as 100 soldiers and officers.

For his personal heroism and bravery he deserves the Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd Class.
