Soviet Documented Group of an Order of the Patriotic War, a Red Star and a Leningrad Medal

 

 

This complete group comes with its award documents. Both in exllenet condition

 

Awarded to Junior Lieutenant Andrei Arsentyevich Grychko for being wounded 7(!) times

 

 

 

Order of the Red Star #1853801

Made of solid silver and enamels. The order weighs 30.1 gram without its screwplate and measures 48.06 mm in width and 45.86 mm in height.

In excellent condition with flawless enamels. The higher laying parts of the order show light wear and most details are visible. It comes with its time period and well fitted screwplate and its screw is full length.

 

 

Order of the Patriotic War 2nd class #449707

Made of solid silver, gold and enamels. The order weighs 25.5 gram without its screwplate and measures 46.25 mm in width and 48.48 mm in height.

This original order of the Patriotic War 2nd class is in excellent condition with all details crisp and problem free enamels. The end of the blade of the solid gold sickle has been deformed a bit. The order comes with its original, time period and well fitted screwplate and its screw is full length.

 

 

Leningrad Medal ‘Voenkomat’ variation

Made of gold plated brass. The medal weighs 16.2 gram without its suspension and measures 32.09 mm in width and 37.05 mm in height.

In near mint condition with perfect details and full gold plating. It comes with its document dated 5 June 1981

 

 

Citation for the Red Star:

Brief, concrete description of his feat of arms or achievements:

“During the fighting with the German invaders at the fronts of the Patriotic War he was wounded five times: on July 10, 1941 on the Northwestern Front, on April 20, 1942 on the Volkhov Front, on August 3, 1944 on the Leningrad Front, on June 8, 1942 on the Volkhov Front, and on January 27, 1944 on the Volkhov Front. Serving in the 261st Rifle Division he showed himself a steadfast, audacious, and self-possessed leader.

On August 3, 1944, during the fighting southwest of the village of Putki, on the western bank of the Narva River in the Estonian SSR, he led his platoon forward and was wounded a fifth time.

He deserves the Order of the Red Star.”

 

 

Citation for the Order of the Patriotic War:

Brief, concrete description of his feat of arms or achievements:

“Having served in the Tank Training Regiment since November 1944, Senior Sergeant Grichko showed himself a disciplined and dutiful junior commander.

He possesses volitional qualities and is demanding of both himself and his subordinates.

On April 20, 1942, during the offensive in the direction of the city of Novgorod, he displayed bravery and heroism.

He maintained uninterrupted communications for the battery commander. During these battles he repaired 8 breaks under enemy fire, thus ensuring the battery could function continuously.

Despite being wounded, he, along with the rest of the battery, fought off an enemy counterattack, during which he was severely wounded.

Conclusion: For his active involvement in the Patriotic War, he is, in accordance with Directive of the Leningrad Front staff nr. 062091 of May 27, 1945, being nominated for the Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd Class.”

Interesting note:

The 2nd Rifle Division in the period April-Juni 1942 received the order to break through the 2nd Shock Army led by the famous Generaal Vlasov. This didn’t succeed and the division suffered heavy losses. Grychko was also wouned in this period. Vlasov defected later to the Germans.
