Awarded to the famous movie director and writer Grigory Vasilievich Aleksandrov
(Григорий Васильевич Александров)

Well known for directing movies like Circus, Volga Volga, and Tanya and actor (as Chief Officer Giliarovsky) in Battleship Potemkin

 

Aleksandrov was a close friend with Charlie Chaplin and they met several times (see picture gallery)

 

 

Made of solid 23 carat gold. It measures 33.82 mm in height including the eyelet, 31.93 mm in width and weighs 15.4 gram without its suspension. The text Герой Социалистического Труда (Hero of Socialist Labor) is located at the center of the reverse. The suspension is authentic to the medal and measures 26.25 mm in width at his widest point and 21.46 in height at its narrowest point. The minimum know serial number of this variation is 10705 and the maximum is 21082.

 

The star is in great condition with sharp edges of the hammer and sickle and few traces of wear. The letters on the reverse are crisp as is the serial number. The suspension includes its time period and original ribbon, rectangular plate, hexagon nut and screwplate. The connection ring between the suspension and the medal has not been cut and the screw is full length.

 

Next to the Hero of Socialist Labor star Aleksandrov was also awarded 3 Orders of Lenin, 2 Orders of the Red Banner of Labor, The Order of Friendship of Peoples, Order of the Red Star, the title ‘People’s Artist’, 2 Stalin Prizes 1st class (!) and several foreign awards.
