Awarded to Guards Jr. Sergeant Grigorij Fedorovich Achkasov (Григорий Федорович Ачкасов)
For laying anti-tank mines under strong enemy fire while being on a mission behind enemy lines, killing 5 Germans, blowing up a tank and remaining on the battlefield while being wounded
Made of solid silver, gold and enamels. The order weighs 24.6 gram without its screwplate and measures 44.68 mm in width and 46.51 mm in height. This early screwback order is produced by the Krasnokamsky Mint (KMD). The minimum known serial number for this variation is 34787 and the maximum is 71998. Left of the screwpost a ‘1’ is stamped, often referred to as a ‘makers mark’.
In excellent condition with crisp details. The enamel is problem free without chipping and repairs and shows some small contact marks only. It comes with its original and well fitted silver screwplate and its long screw -typical for these early awards- has not been shortened.
“In the area of the settlement Malye Avtyutsevichi, Guards Jr. Sergeant ACHKASOV and his miners section were on a mission behind the enemy line and acted as part of a mobile detachment, which provided minefield cover to the battalion. Executing the assigned mission under strong enemy fire, comrade ACHKASOV and his section laid an anti-tank minefield on the sector of the potential enemy armour thrust. When the enemy went into an attack, comrade ACHKASOV took the fight and his section managed to fend off the attack, killing 5 Germans. An enemy tank, which supported the enemy troops, blew up on the minefield laid by ACHKASOV’s team. Being wounded in this engagement, comrade ACHKASOV remained on the battlefield”
