Awarded to Sr. Sergeant Anatoly Ivanovich Bazarya (Анатолий Иванович Базаря)
For crawling towards a machine-gun position and attacking it with hand grenades, destroying it and its enemy crew and for eliminating 28 Hitlerites and capturing 3 prisoners in the combat engagements for the railway
Recommended for the title ‘Hero of the Soviet Union’
Made of silver and enamels. Measures 46.98 mm in width, 49.49 mm in height and weighs 21.3 grams without its suspension. The serial number is located on top of its reverse.
In a nice, above average condition with much gold plating present and an appealing medium dark patina on both sides. The red enamel on the banner around the Cyrillic lettering ‘СЛАВА’ is problem free and only shows some minor superficial flaking. The enamel on the star on top of the Spasskaya is partly lost and/or covered with some dirt. The order comes with its time period steel suspension and its connection ring has been cut.
Scarce award in above average condition with great research!
Brief, concrete description of his feat of arms or achievements:
“During the relentless fighting against the German invaders for capturing town Küstrin [Poland, at the German border] on 08 March 1945, comrade BAZARYA spotted an enemy machine-gun position, which inhibited advance of our troops. Despite apparent mortal danger, he crawled towards the machine-gun and attacked it with hand grenades destroying it and the enemy crew. In the combat engagements for the railway, he spotted a group of enemy troops up to 70 strong. Comrade BAZARYA and his squad, fighting their way forward, flanked the enemy and eliminated 28 Hitlerites, and captured 3 prisoners. The rest of the enemy was routed in panic.
Comrade BAZARYA deserves the title “HERO OF SOVIET UNION”.”
