Researched Soviet Order of the Red Banner #25575

Awarded to fighter pilot Lt. Colonel Victor Lavrentievich Kozlov (Виктор Лаврентьевич Козлов)

Made of solid silver and enamels. Measures 40.61 mm in height, 36.25 mm in width and weighs 23.1 gram. The serial number and the mint mark Monetni Dvor are located at the 6 o’clock position of its reverse.

The order is in excellent, well above average condition. The higher laying parts such as the center wreath and the torch show medium wear and have most details visible. The red enamel is mostly present and in far better condition than most screwback Red Banners and only shows some superficial flaking. The white enamels are problem free. The order has no repairs and the screw is full length. It comes with its time period and well fitting silver screwplate.

This early Red Banner is in excellent condition awarded to a fighter pilot. Scarce as such!

Unfortunately his award card with citation was not found in the archives. Hopefully this will be possible in the future.

We do know to following:

He was flying between November the 15th and December the 17th 1941. That final date he was severely wounded during a combat mission. After he healed he was transferred to the 13th reserve fighter aviation regiment.

Also available are the citations of his other awards. Scans of his Order of the Patriotic War 1st class, a Bataysk graduation chart of 1957 and the Bataysk school monument can be found in the picture gallery.

The translation of the register card:  KOZLOV
