Soviet Partisan Medal 1st class

Variation 2 with a raised rim on its obverse

This medal is literally a textbook example for it is portrayed in ‘Soviet Orders and Medals’ by Andrew Reznik (page 168)

This Soviet Partisan Medal is made of solid silver. It measures 32.28 mm in diameter and 2.75 mm in thickness. The height of the medal is 37.11 mm (including the eyelet) and it weighs 20.8 gram.

This original medal is in superb, well above average condition with all details crisp. Even the eyelids of both Lenin and Stalin are crisp and the often worn down hammer and sickle at the bottom of the obverse is mostly visible. Both sides show only a few tiny dings and scratches but very little overall wear and an attractive medium patina. The silver connection ring has not been cut and the double layer steel suspension belongs to the medal.

Probably the nicest piece we have ever handled!

The Medal “To a Partisan of the Patriotic War” (Russian: Медаль Партизану Отечественной войны) was a World War II Soviet award established in two classes. This was done on February 2, 1943, by decree of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. It recognised the courage of the partisans in their struggle to free the Soviet Motherland behind enemy lines. Its statute was amended by a further decree of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR in 1947.
