Soviet Hero of Socialist Labor #8380

Сицилия Федоровна Егорова

Awarded to Sicily Fedorovna Egorova (Сицилия Фёдоровна Егорова) (Chisinau, Moldavia 1928-?)

Foreman of a sewing workshop and later deputy of the Supreme Council of the Moldavian SSR of the (4th and 5th congress)

One of the only 200 Moldavian Heroes of Socialist Labor!

This piece is literally a textbook example for it is portrayed in ‘Soviet Orders and Medals’ by Andrew Reznik (page 137)

Hero of Socialist Labor Star: made of solid 23 carat gold. It measures 33.81 mm in height including the eyelet, 31.95 mm in width and weighs 15.4 gram without its suspension. The text Герой Социалистического Труда (Hero of Socialist Labor) is located at the center of the reverse. This early variation has the serial number at the 12 o’clock position in contrast to the later variation which has the number at the 6 o’clock position. The front of the medal shows a hammer and sickle. The suspension is authentic to the medal and measures 26.83 mm in width at his widest point and 21.31 in height at its narrowest point. The minimum know serial number of this variation is 1099 and the maximum is 9978.

The star is in great condition with sharp edges of the hammer and sickle and few traces of wear. The letters on the reverse are crisp as is the serial number. The suspension includes its time period and original ribbon, rectangular plate and hexagon screwplate. The connection ring between the suspension and the medal has not been cut and the screw is full length. There have been no repairs and the medal comes with a well fitted screwplate which is a replacement and not authentic to the award.
