Awarded to Lt. Colonel Petr Nikolaevich Prikhno (Петр Николаевич Прихно), chief of staff of the 8th motorised rifle NKVD division
“By his effort the enemy attack was repelled and all the personal and vehicles were safely relocated while being subject to heavy enemy fire”
Made of solid silver. Measures 37.15 mm in diameter, 3.02 mm in thickness and 41.45 mm in height including its eyelet. The eyelet itself is 5.51 mm wide and the medal weighs 30.7 gram without its suspension.
In excellent, above average condition with light to medium overall wear. The details of the higher laying parts like the rivets on the side of the tank and the canons are all present and crisp. The lacquer filling the lettering is mostly present which is not seen often with this generation of Medals for Bravery. Its small silver connection ring is original and has not been cut.
This medal was originally on a rectangular suspension and was replaced with a new one to comply with the new 1943 regulations of wearing Soviet awards. By the look of the old ribbon and the early pentagon suspension this was done shortly after these new regulations came into effect.
Unfortunately the order booklet is not in our possession but we managed to get a scan of the relevant pages. These can be found in the picture gallery.
Comrade PRIKHNO has been first the chief of staff of 8 motorised rifle NKVD division, and later the chief of staff of 63 rifle division. He has been efficient in organising the respective headquarters functions. In all the combat operations, he ensured efficient and continuous combat governance of the troops and proper combat documentation. In the situations near Bobrovsky 2nd and Serafimovich, when the enemy imposed direct threat to the division headquarters, comrade PRIKHNO personally organised the headquarters personnel to man the defensive perimeter. As the result of this effort, the enemy trust was repelled and all the personal and vehicles were safely relocated and evaded the enemy, even though it was done under heavy enemy fire. He is a disciplined and reliable officer.
He is devoted to the case of the LENIN-STALIN party and the Socialist Motherland. He enjoys the well deserved respect among the troops. He deserves state award – medal “FOR BRAVERY”
