Soviet Medal for Bravery #2232797

Awarded to Sergeant Mikhail Petrovich Tomashevsky  (Михаил Петрович Томашевский)

For personally repairing 10 line cuts in Czechoslovakia while being under continuous enemy machine-gun and mortar fire

Made of solid silver. Measures 37.36 mm in diameter and 2.59 mm in thickness. The height of the medal is 42.44 mm including its eyelet and it weighs 27.2 gram without its suspension.

The medal for Bravery is in nice condition with light to medium wear. The details of the higher laying parts like the rivets on the side of the tank and the canons are all visible. The lacquer filling the letters is mostly present and its connection ring has been cut.

Brief and specific description of the personal feat or merits:

“Despite the intensive enemy machine-gun and mortar fire, he and his section provided timely and uninterrupted signalling links between the regiment commanders post and the firing positions during the assault towards the settlement Svyatoy Antol (Czechoslovakia) on the night 05-06 March 1945.

Constant enemy barrage resulted in multiple signalling link cuts. Just in one night, comrade TOMASHEVSY personally repaired the link 4 times. This allowed the command to establish the river crossing site and advance to the new positions. In the engagement for the town Banská-Štiavnica (Czechoslovakia) on 06 March 1945, comrade TOMASHEVSKY repaired 6 line cuts under continuous enemy machine-gun and mortar fire. This provided for efficient control of the artillery batteries in combat and subsequent capture of the town Banská Štiavnica. He acts bravely, decisively, and proactively in combat setting.

He deserves state award – order “RED STAR”.”
