The brass suspension is original as is the brass screw, the nut, the plate holding the ribbon and the screw plate tightening it all up.

Brief, concrete description of his feat of arms or accomplishments

“He has been a morse code signaller of the morse code section during the war period and exhibited examples of delivering uninterrupted communication capability to the cavalry corps headquarters (both up and down the chain of command).

He provided uninterrupted communication during the combat period of 12-24 May 1942 near the village Pisarevka, Izvitskaya, Ternovaya, Varvarovka, despite constant enemy aerial strikes, which severed many times the signalling wire and posed constant threat.

With his personal tempered conduct and very professional technical knowledge of the equipment, he inspired his comrades for achievement of the combat objectives.

Despite very hight work load, he personally ensured the messages were transmitted and the logbook is properly filled in.

Comrade SMIRNO is a disciplined, brave, determined, energetic, resourceful serviceman and a good public-spirited person.

He deserves state award medal “For Combat Merits”.”
