Soviet Order of Alexander Nevsky #40335

 

 

Awarded to Lieutenant Nikolaj Ivanovich Gerasimenko (Николай Иванович Герасименко)

 

 

Made of solid silver and enamels. It measures 51.37 mm in height, 49.97 mm in width and weighs 42.1 gram. The serial number and the mint mark Monetni Dvor are located at the 6 o’clock position underneath the screw.

 

This original order of Alexander Nevsky is in excellent condition with all details crisp and most gold plating present. Even the higher laying parts on the obverse show little wear and the red enamel is problem free apart from some minor contact marks on the top ray of the red star. The screw has not been shortened and there have been no repairs. It comes with its time period silver screwplate.

 

Brief, concrete description of his feat of arms or achievements:

“On the night 16-17 May (red: April) 1945, during the enemy defence breakthrough near the town Lebus, Lt. GERASIMENKO commanded his mine clearing groups and provided 3 cleared paths through the enemy minefields and barbed wire obstacles. Skilfully leading his men, Lt. GERASIMENKO achieved unimpeded passage of the tanks and SPGs through the second line of the enemy defences.

During the battle for elimination of the enemy pocket South-East of Berlin, Lt. GERASIMENKO and his platoon, while under heavy enemy artillery fire, provided lossless crossing across the river Spree to the artillery units of a rifle regiment near the town Fürstenwalde. During the enemy pursuit till the rive Elbe, Lt. GERASIMENKO and his platoon was attached to a rifle regimented and provided engineer support – conducted engineering reconnaissance of the enemy obstacles, cleared barricades, repaired bridges.

Lt. GERASIMENKO is worthy of a state award – “Aleksander Nevsky” order.”
