Богданов Владимир Александрович

Awarded to Jr. Lieutenant Vladimir Aleksandrovich Bogdanov (Владимир Александрович Богданов)

For exhibiting exceptional courage, bravery, and military skill while being encircled by the enemy force. He personally eliminated 6 enemy troops while fending off the enemy’s counter attack

Made of solid silver and enamels. Measures 45.09 mm in height, 37.02 mm in width and it weighs 25.4 gram without its suspension. The serial number and mint mark are located at the 6 o’clock position of its reverse.

This Order of the Red Banner is in excellent condition considering it is an early suspension type award. The details are still visible and crisp and even the higher laying wreath in the center shows light to medium wear only. The enamels are without repairs and and mostly present apart from some superficial flaking and a chip on the top left side of the large banner and on the 3 o’clock ray center red star. Its connection ring has been cut and the double layer steel suspension and ribbon are time period to the award.

Brief, concrete description of his feat of arms or achievements:

“In the enemy defence breakthrough operation since 22 February 1944, comrade BOGDANOV commanded a platoon of submachine gunners. He exhibited exceptional courage, bravery, and military skill in the event of the regiment being encircled by the enemy force.

On 26 February 1944 near the cemetery site east of the village Savitskie, the enemy unleashed a ferocious attack. Having taken the cemetery ground, Comrade BOGDANOV organised defensive perimeter with the men from his platoon as well as with the men from the reconnaissance of foot platoon. The enemy counter attack by the armour and infantry was fended off. Comrade BOGDANOV personally eliminated 6 enemy troops in this engagement.

For fearless conduct, bravery, and military skill exhibited in the struggle against the German invaders, I recommend comrade BOGDANOV for state award – order “RED BANNER”.”
