Soviet Order of Glory 2nd class #2577

Awarded to Sergeant Dmitry Ivanovich Danilov (Дмитрий Иванович Данилов)

For exceptional courage and bravery while preventing a bridge from being blown up. In the process he killed up to 10 Finns.

Order of Glory 2nd class; Made of silver and enamels. Measures 47.16 mm in width; 49.22 mm in height and weighs 22.4 gram. The serial number is located on top of its reverse.

This original order is in an excellent, far above average condition with most details visible and a substantial amount of the gold plating present. The red enamel is absolutely stunning and fully present. Both sides show relatively few dings and light wear. The order comes with its time period double layer steel suspension, uncut connection ring and original wartime ribbon!

This order has it all. Excellent condition, great eye appeal, low serial number and extensive, interesting research. Rare as such!

Brief, concrete description of his feat of arms or achievements:

“During the operation aimed at breaching the Finnish defenses and during the pursuit of the Finnish troops in the Ozerki – Kalat-Selga area, Karelo-Finnish SSR, he exhibited exceptional courage and bravery.

On July 3, 1944 the enemy was retreating and attempting to blow up a bridge across the Nalma River. With enemy shells exploding around him, our courageous gun layer defied death, trained his gun accurately, and brought down rapid fire onto the road, preventing the bridge from being blown up. In the process he killed up to 10 Finns.

On July 4, 1944, near the village of Nozhoila, he displayed exceptional courage and bravery. Under ceaseless enemy fire he continually risked his life, bringing down accurate fire, through which he suppressed the fire of an enemy mortar battery that had prevented our infantry and combat vehicles from pushing forward. When our forward units had captured the bridge, the enemy opened fire with an antitank rifle that had remained undamaged. He quickly and accurately trained his gun onto the target, and his second shell destroyed the antitank rifle, along with its crew.

For the courage and bravery he displayed in combat, comrade Danilov deserves the Order of Glory, 2nd Class.”
